Please join us to hear about The Royal National Lifeboat Institution saving lives around the coast of Britain and Ireland Wednesday, November 3rd at 2 pm The RNLI is the charity that saves lives at sea. They have 330 lifeboats stationed around the UK and Ireland where the volunteer crews are ready to go, at a moment’s notice in foul weather or darkness, to rescue those in trouble out at sea. We also have lifeguards on 250 beaches during the busy summer months. This talk will illustrate how the RNLI achieves this: a brief look at how it started 200 years ago is followed by information about the lifeguards and the current fleet of lifeboats, illustrated by slides and real time video of some of the recent rescue missions. There will be brief comparisons with how such rescues are undertaken in Canada. Bio of our speaker: David Richmond-Coggan has been a volunteer fundraiser, presenter and education volunteer for the RNLI for some 13 years, he is chairman of the fundraising branch in the Bournemouth area (on the south coast of England).
